I've always loved the Grace Under Pressure album, but felt that the drum mix on the album did Neil's playing no justice. But the live recordings of Grace material from that era smoke the studio versions...like this one! Thanx for posting. If only they had included this song on the Grace Under Pressure Tour '84 video!!!

Has anyone here played live? This was before in-ear monitors giving them the tempos. You get hyper and musicians generally always play faster live (it's not done consciously, it just happens). Usually 15-20% faster actually

And the worst of all, they have a very bad live sound now.... The point here, he just can't play 80" stuff with a Les Paul ! He knows what he's doing, it's a taste point of view and I don't like what he's doing ! That's all.

What did you just write. Alex hasn't sounded like anyone, EVER. He is by far the most underrated guitar player today. His sound has always progressed with the music of that time. I would assume by the user name you like Rush, but to make that comment seems to me very uneducated on everything RUSH. Just sayin.

I completely agree with you. My favorite guitar sound of his is the 80's, but the thing about a progressive band like Rush is that they keep progressing. If they do one thing for too long, it gets stale or old. Rush moves with the trends, but make it original at the same time.

What makes you think that you know what's best for Alex's sound? You don't think that he might have some idea of what the fuck he's doing after all these years? It's very sad that you think Alex sounds like everyone else in the industry, he certainly does not

He's not off. The riff is in 5/8 time so the rhythm sounds uneven. 1-2-3-4-5, 1-2-3-4-5. With the emphasis (*snare) on 1-*-3-*-*, 1-*-3-4-* "A world of indifference" Then 4/4 time comes in at the line "Call it blind frustration. Also, Alex's delay was set to a fast tempo...when you play notes between the delay like he does, you're stuck with the tempo otherwise the effect doesn't work right. Either they planned it that way, or they were stuck with an unintentionally fast tempo.
