The early criticism of Rush, or Geddy's vocals, was from press empresarios who really didn't 'get' the band but wanted to make $s from them. They wanted a commercial band like the 'Stones' or the 'Who', but Rush wanted to prove their worth as original writers and performers. You're wrong in your contention that G's a bass player first and a vocalist second. They made it on the strength of Geddy's unique vocal sound and I think Jack Bruce would be first to say "well done" guys and keep doing it!

learning rush songs has been the best "music school" for most rock musicians in the world for about 40 years now, lets be honest, they have raised the bar in every area of music, the world is driping with guys with increadible chops allover the place.if you remember what passed as a "great band' in 1974.you know exactly who effected that huge change.

when i clicked this video i thought it was going to be rough. it's still great. even with playing it lower to suit ged these days. i prefer this much more than ged trying to belt out like he used to.

Exactly. Led Zep did this in 2009 for their reunion show. No way Robert Plant could have hit those high notes nowadays.

They tuned down a whole step on this one, it would be impossible for geddy to sing this like he did in 1978. Still sound great for his age though.
