Marianne Faithfull on the bridge kind of feels like the precursor to hearing that devastating Kimbra appearance on Gotye's smash "Somebody That I Used to Know."

Fabulous melody . Lyrics none too bad either . I bought this on vinyl as a single circa 81 - still have it - . Like myself a bit the worse for the years (although the record hasn't added 30 Kgs !) See "The Lone Ranger",( "Quantam Jump") - too for those interested .

@superspit It's the same, except that the reprises of 'joker loves' and 'joker sighs', together with the first two guitar responses have been edited out. It diminishes the drama of the ending as far as I'm concerned, but luckily the main song is entirely there.

Always loved this song....since 81....but one question? Is this 'video' version audio identical to the album version audio?..I think the outro (ending) of this track is a little different. The band MGMT are notorious for doing that (vido clip audio differing from CD track)..for example. Please forgive me if I am entirely incorrect! Rock-On!

Love the song and the quirky video clip. Used to listen to it heaps on the radio back then...big parties back then....sigh..... so much misplaced love......

@WoodRatGirl Sorry it dont makesense to you but that is the date on the album.Rupert Hine did produce the wildlife record and it is entirely possible that he let Wildlife record it before he did his own version the released it. Lots of people make a living out of writing songs for others. Burning also featured the song Winning by Russ Ballard. You can find at least 3 other versions on utube.

I know that Rupert Hine wrote this song and that this is the original, but I do prefer the Wildlife version off of the 1980 album Burning.

Phil Collins actually plays drums on the whole album xD

Phil Collins and Marianne Faithful appear on this classic tune. PC did his drumming as on Peter Gabriel III and his own No Jackets Required - ie, no cymbals. RH has done heaps in the past, and this is a great song. The video's of his stuff is amazing. Brilliant and obscure - the way it makes you think! He did a great film score (I think) of electronic music for The Shout (starring John Hurt and Alan Bates) long before this and other synth stuff.
