I made this video for my sister out of my holiday photos.

The song is Proterra by Runrig; a Scottish band.

Lyrics:

As I walk along these shores

I am the history within

As I climb the mountainside

Breaking Eden again

Dark the day, dark the night

The warring dust, the morning tribe

Crushed by a million suns

Here the heart of you lies

Over land and sea

I'll come fighting for you

Over land and sea

A dawn is breaking before us

Proterra, take this hand

The open wound, the promised land

Breaking the waves, spread the oars

Cast our badge for the shore

Lisa - Apparently, Proterra is an adaptation of the motto of the MacDonald clan - "Per Terra, Per Mare" which means "By land and by sea". With two MacDonalds in the band, it figures.

We are surprised that only some 17 000s have been here....it deserves piles of clicks....beautiful tone....of course for us with Scottish roots, it touches deeper.....I suppose....

This song is crazy beautiful....and dangerous to us with too much melancholy....dragging one inwards by this teasing flute....but: ??? Why the heck is so many musicians using that f..........g destortion on the guitar, obscuring the very beauty of the flute and the ambiance of this wholeness of a fabulous tune.... w w w sxu.se Eddy Jacobsen Enjoy my songs.....Scottish roots is within me....Glaswegian....

Passing by a music shop in Denmark, this tune came out from the speakers above the door.......never heard it before.......it makes me yearn for Scotland so dreadfully.....and so emotional.......this tune saved my day!!!! Thanks for sharing... And if you like; Listen to my latest song; "Dearest moments of time; mother and daughter in communion" - which is also very emotional....... Eddy

i think "proterra" means "home" in this context.

Love this song, it has fast become one of my favourite Runrig songs. Just reminds me of home, but also of al; the great family holidays we spent in Scotland/Alba :) My parents invariably had Runrig playing in the car and this brings back some wonderful memories :)

@elleisimo The title is a made up word, from the Latin, meaning 'for the land.' It was taken from the motto on the Macdonald Clan crest - Per Mare, Per Terras - By Sea, By Land. The crest shows a severed arm holding a cross. The legend or myth of the crest origin became the subject of the song.

Ah, that does make a lot of sense. ^_^ Thanks!

Im not completely sure what it means either, but i think it is a word they made up from the latin words: "pro" meaning for and "terra" meaning land. This would make proterra mean "for the land" which kind of makes sense in the song. hope this helps

Love it! This is one of my favorite songs from Runrig... So beautiful! Got but one question though- what does Proterra mean? :/ Forgive my ignorance but... that's why I ask. ^^;
