I thought that was from "The Delicate Delinquent." I haven't seen that on TV in nearly 40 years.

From its earliest days, rock and roll was a rallying cry for punks and outcasts. The music and visuals here capture that perfectly. A rumble was a fight between two rival gangs. Wray's guitar style just screams impending threat. Neil Young later cited Link Wray as a big influence on the guitar style of his band Crazy Horse. Early Lynyrd Skynyrd sounded a lot like Crazy Horse. The style also carried over into surf music.

I just love the 50's "proto punk" by Link Wray (and his Ray Men). Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran, and others, really exploded the potential of the electric guitar, and especially distortion electric guitar. Amps turned up loud, with early amp effects, twangy guitars, and driving primordial drum lines. These were a part of this early punk expression. It was a reflection of inner city pachuco attitude's that developed just after WWII. Long live the twanger's and banger's.

In 1958, Cadence Records released the instrumental song “Rumble” by “Link Wray,” which later was credited with being the first heavy-metal song.
