I remember watching this production in the good old days when the BBC gave us operas. Transmitted at the actual times and in the actual locations it was revolutionary for the time and a magnificent performance from both the outstanding Ruggero Raimondi and Placido Domingo-both definitive in the roles they played. Finally, after many years, I have managed to get this on DVD. Raimondi is frightening as Scarpia-he oozes evil but at the same time has incredible attractiveness-a true opera bad boy. Only one Ruggero-only one Scaripa...fabulous stuff.
