Saw him years and years ago at a beach night club in N.H. and 40 years later it is still the greatist concert I have ever been to and I live in Vegas now, and your right, he sounded as go live as he did on his recording. If you have seen his Black And White concert he sounds even better that he did when he was young. A one in TWO lifetimes perfomer.

Roy Orbison was a natural baritone, but music scholars have suggested that he had a three- or four-octave range. The combination of Orbison's powerful, impassioned voice and complex musical arrangements led many critics to refer to his music as operatic, giving him the sobriquet "the Caruso of Rock". Elvis Presley and Bono have stated his voice was, respectively, the greatest and most distinctive they had ever heard.[3] While most men in rock and roll in the 1950s and 1960s portrayed a defiant masculinity, many of Orbison's songs instead conveyed a quiet, desperate vulnerability. He was known for performing while standing still and solitary, wearing black clothes and dark sunglasses which lent an air of mystery to him.Uptown, in penhouse number threeUptown, there lives a doll just made for meShe’s the finest thing that you’ve ever seen, oh ho haUptown, I see her most every dayUptown, but she never ever looks my wayI’m just a bellhop, you see I can’t stopAnd tell her what I wanna sayThat one of these days, I’m gonna have moneyShe’ll wanna be my ever-lovin’ honeyIt won’t be long, just wait and seeI’ll have a big car, fine clothesAnd then I’ll beUptown, in penthouse number threeUptown, just my baby and meYeah, one of these days, I’m gonna have moneyShe’ll wanna be my ever-lovin’ honeyIt won’t be long, just wait and seeI’ll have a big car, fine clothesAnd then I’ll beUptown, in penthouse number threeUptown, just my baby and meRoy Orbison - Uptown

@royraaijmakers I did and his voice was as good live as it was on record. Talk about a southern gentleman. Very shy and appreciative of his audiences.
