Roy Orbison's version of Distant Drums. Although not the original voice, Roy's version was the first to be released.

Enjoy!

The song Roy couldn't beat Jim Reeves on, that's rare.

I like the dynamism of this version,-Roys voice. Jim was great but, like his songs, they all sort of sounded alike...Like John Wayne Western movies...But I love this by Jim, also...but Roy's my man...JC

1963 B side of Falling. Loved both songs by Roy.Never understood why Distance Drums didn`t chart in US in pop or country.

Roy Orbison is assured a place as one of the (justified) singers of all time.....but Jim Reeves does sing this better.....

Sorry +malgray2 You are wrong. Distant Drums was written by Cindy Walker.

This was in fact a song written by Roy. Jim Reeves had more success with it than Roy.

This is the first time I've heard Roy sing this one. Never even knew he had performed it. To me this has always been one of Jim's golden songs. I'm a huge fan of Roy Orbison. I think his "Black & White Hight" DVD was recorded at the peak of his singing career. If you're a fan, don't miss it. Its rich and beautiful. For this particular song, "Distant Drums", I just don't think he puts the same emotion into it that Jim did. Two wonderful artistes: RIP Jim and Roy.

so, share. You know who wrote it,who sang it before Roy. Really, it is well known, nothing to do with you. Why be so shy? Omigosh? Jim Reeves, what a surprise. Really?

I love Roy Orbison and I love drums so for me this is a perfect combination. It also brings back a lot of memories.
