Roy's first single, released in April 1956. Some label pressings incorrectly list the song as "Trying to Get You" and Roy's name as "Roy Oribson". "Trying to Get to You" was first recorded by a vocal group called the Eagles in 1954. In 1955, it was recorded by Elvis Presley. Written by Rose Marie McCoy and Charlie Singleton. B-side is "Ooby Dooby".

One of those forgotten recordings. It's a pity because Roy's version I think is the better one. Not overdone. Simple, classic. Proper Rock and Roll as it should be.

C grade? Apart from the likes of Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock etc, I don't think many of Elvis's movies made it that high. I saw everyone of them, and got more and more embarrassed by the banality. And some of the songs!

Roy's vocal range was certainly one almighty talent, my personal favourite is (just) Elvis, though. But you can't even consider the Beatles in the same sentence as either of them to my mind. Roy's song writing puts almost everything Lennon & McCartney have done to shame. That's my opinion, feel free to disagree, I respect everyone else's right to do so!!

I know what you mean krustybiker. I brought his 45 RPM records when they started coming out in the 60s. I know like you we are glad that younger people have discovered him and enjoy his great singing but we got to contribute (in a small way with millions of others) to his success while he was alive.

Elvis learned this song from Roy. The Sun Records Master of Elvis was lost so Elvis re-recorded when he went to RCA. Just think how much Elvis's life would have been if he had stayed more connected to his Sun Record pals like Roy and Carl Perkins, instead of the 'Memphis Mafia". Maybe we would have been spared all those mediocre "C-grade" movies Elvis ended up making. Compare the quality of the songs in "the Fastest Guitar Alive" (1967) to the drivel Elvis was singing in movies in 1967.

Now to me Roy Orbinson was greater than Elvis Presely and the Beatles.

WWWoooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!! I was privileged to see the Big O live in the 60s. Something you would never forget. Wish he'd done this, though.
