@ Steven Stanley......You'll never convince me it was suicide either. Do you know how much truth there is to the story about the cop who took Roy in that night? I've heard there was a long-running grudge (for want of a better word) held by this particular cop towards Roy. I too find the whole story a wicked cover-up. Bless you Roy, you were magic. RIP.

I knew Roy for a long time, I went to all his shows on the east coast and I talked with him on various occasions. No one will ever convince me that he took his own life. The bruises that were found on his head and the goings on at the police station that he was being held in were never fully disclosed and his wife, Judy, tried to have his body exhumed but could not and later it was found that other prisoners at the time were also mistreated at this cell by the same guard(s) but no one could do anything. Everything was covered up. If it happened today it would have blown up all over the news the way the Ferguson incident did. Except this time with good reason.

Have you ever read "This Wheel's On Fire?" It is Levon Helm's book about his own life and the career of The Band. In it he makes some good points, such as Robertson getting writing credit for numbers like "Chest Fever," where a big chunk of it is solely Garth Hudsons work. He saysRobertson exploited the rest of The Band and cashed in on it, then brought the end about when he was the only one who wanted to stop. It's a good book.

I guess in the end Robertson had trouble with the Band members as there were copyright issues that involved those who truly wrote the Band's music. It seems like Roberson got the best of the authoring rights of the music. Other members claim he took advantage of them and the situation. If this is true I find it very unfortunate for one member to take advantage of others...

The rhythm is monotonous, but that is offset by the soloing (though it really didn't have to be as long as it is).

True, but he isn't bad at all. Some of the little flourishes Robertson used in The Band and his solo career directly reflect tricks he picked up from Buchanan. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, I admire his taste in influences.

he does not just play he independently mutes any thing he does not want to hear, with his hands to get that sweet tone coming through. Scary good!

Buchanan was with the original Hawks (later known as "The Band"), and Levon Helm says he was a strange person with weird eyes and a bizarre sense of humor. And where Ronnie Hawkins wanted showmanship in his musicians (dance steps and so forth) he just let Buchanan stand on the side of the stage and play the living crap out of the guitar. You can hear his influence on The Band's Robbie Robertson, though Robertson on his best day (I feel) can't touch what Buchanan did on an average day.
