One of the great Roy Acuff's first "hits", this song borrows lyrics from an old Southern hymn and marries them to the melody of "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes." It was first recorded in 1938 and has since been covered many times.

Today is 6-17-2018, Fathers Day!!My Dad died 10 years ago, but if he were still here, I would hug him and tell him Happy Father's Day. He was a big fan of Roy Acuff, since way back in the late 1930s when Mr. Acuff first joined the Grand Ole Opry.

I sincerely applaud anybody who is listening to this song in 2017... especially if you didn't grow up with this music because that means you had to actively seek it out. I wish there was more people that were my age that Loved this music.

I grew up hearing & loving this song by Roy. I am 69. It was my grandmother's favorite & she requested it be sung @ her funeral, & it was in 1980. A great vocalist & a great man. Love all his songs.

My Puritanical Opinion

"Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her...." (Jeremiah 12.9.) It's about Judah being trampled by Babylon, being applied in this song to persecution of the Bible by the world.
