The question as to why contemporary artists seem to not be able to surpass music of artists like Roxy Music and others is curious.

For some unknown reason, Roxy Music slipped right past me. I had no idea they did this kind of sound. I grew up in the 80s, probably the reason and Ferry went pop. I love this stuff

Roxy Music is my favorite of all time. King Crimson my second favorite, so Wetton on bass is an added treat!

John Gustafson's bass lines from the albums are untouchable. Live at Auckland Town Hall 1975 his was the best electric bass player I have heard to this day. Wetton has the idea here but Johnny Gus gave Roxy their whole feel. Wetton was lazy when he replaced Thain in Heep to Sweet Lorraine deserved better, but we got mud.

To think Bryan Ferry could have sung for King Crimson!

Out of the blue - for me it was Eddie Jobson on a glass electric violin. Just blew me away in the mid 70s when I first saw them at the Apollo in Glasgow !

After Crimsons brake up John Wetton's Powerful Bass playing really gave Roxy a harder-Progger sound. Much missed !!!!!!!!! But in a few years Wetton,Jobson,Holdsworth and fellow Crim Bruford formed UK - a Prog/Fusion Masterpiece !!!!!

I'd kind of forgotten John Wetton had a stint in Roxy. On paper it wouldn't work but he fits in really well and his musicianship is great.

I keep coming back to the first 4 Roxy albums, they're 40 years old now and sound so current. Bowie seems to get all the accolades when it comes to the 70's and of course he was brilliant but for me Roxy made better music and looked like completely wild space lizards! Ferry's lyrics on those early albums are brilliant, superb musicians, man they had it all! We need a definitive Roxy documentary and a best of that includes all the 70s gems.
