"Wishing on a Star" is a single from the American group Rose Royce, included in its In Full Bloom album of 1977. [2] The song is a ballad written by Billie Rae Calvin and produced by Norman Whitfield. [3] The music did not do much success in the United States where only reached # 52 on the Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs. The single was successful in the UK which reached # 3 on the UK Singles Chart. [4] [5] There are versions for names like Fresh 4 featuring Lizz E (1989), The Cover Girls (1992), 88.3 featuring Lisa May (1995), Jay-Z featuring Gwen Dickey (1997), Paul Weller (2004), Seal (2011) among many others. The version of the finalists of The X Factor UK 2011 with participation of JLS and One Direction groups (2011) reached No. 1 in England.

"Wishing on a Star" (in Portuguese: Asking a star) is the second single from the album Here It Is, released by dance-pop and freestyle The Cover Girls group in 1992. It was the second and final single released by the group enter the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 (the other single "we Can not Go Wrong" which reached # 8), reaching # 9. In the UK and Canada and song achieved moderate success, reaching the position # 38 and # 46 respectively. In the Netherlands the song was very successful, reaching # 6.

In Brazil, this version gained popularity after being included on the soundtrack of the Body and Soul Of novel, being the subject of character Yasmin Bianchi, who was played by actress Daniella Perez. On December 28, 1992 Daniella was murdered by Guilherme de Padua, actor who participated in the same soap opera actress.

"Wishing on a Star" was re-recorded by Beyoncé in 2004 for the album Live at Wembley. [12] The song was used to promote the perfume True Star by Tommy Hilfiger. [13] In 2005 it was included in the soundtrack of Roll Bounce Movie [14].

Grammy Awards 2006 the song was nominated for Best Female R & B Vocal Performance. [15] On August 17, 2010, Beyoncé released the song as a promotional single.
