When you look back, the speed in which life passes is terrifying, and there will always be things left unsaid, and for the most part you will never know how the story ends but you have to give it a good go trying to get there. That is why Jim Steinman is the greatest songwriter EVER. And what is more, there is something about the desperate sound of Rory's vocal that just makes the words even more poignant.

Air Supply's version has been one of my favourite songs of all time for 31 years. absolutely wonderful vocals by Russell Hitchcock. however this original demo is wonderful in its own right, can hear the way he's almost pitching it for Meat Loaf .

This is likely the demo Steinman used to get Clive Davis to pitch the song to Air Supply in late 1982, which became a big hit in '83. Neither Rory Dodd nor Holly Sherwood got the credit they deserved for backing, and occasional leads on demos like this. Note the different lyrics after the bridge from the Air Supply version.
