Ronnie had a very varied career till county muisic gave hi, his break. He played blues, soul & funk along with everything else all over the south. Thid song was played on many black stations and I believe made it onto the R&B charts. In those days there as almost nil crossover. I lived in Nashville & worked I the music business and even till the early 90s did many people not believe This could be Ronnie!

I don't really think of this song as being "disco". To me, it sounds like something Earth, Wind & Fire or the Commodores would have done. It's more funk than disco! Granted, it's not country, but it's still a great tune! Thanks for posting and bringing back some great memories.

The single, according to Ronnie, went no further than the top 30. Its timing was rather unfortunate. It was released on July 1979; on the 10/2th, Disco Demolition Night happened (there're sites w/ more info on it), and it had a negative impact on disco, showing that it was being overplayed, and many were tired of it monopolizing mainstream radio (you had to go to country radio to avoid it, and many didn't want to). It's alive and well today, but not under that name, as that name has a bad rep.

@MrNotNiceGuy Except, obvoiusly, Elvis Presley, who's now sold over 1 3/4 billion records across the world and still sells millions upon millions every year. Overall, I agree. The only problem is that this song was disco, and people generally want nothing to do with it, so sadly it's never going to be blaring in people's vehicles. Why this Hot 100 top 30 (Ronnie Milsap podcast #5) isn't on CD when "She Loves My Car" is, you got me. (Besides possibly its genre, and even then...)

Why isnt the first ever remix on CD? I dont get it, this is SCREAMING to be blared in peoples car, SMH RCA has forgotten those who made them as powerful as they are and its a shame

"...but if I did that, Warren wouldn't make his gig!" (Referring to bassist Warren Gower, who was on this record.)
