If you like this recording, please support Ronnie by purchasing it directly from him on a custom made CD (just for you!) at his website, www.ronniedovemusic.com. This is also available on Ronnie's brand new cd, The Complete Original Chart Hits: 1964-1969 from Real Gone Music (www.realgonemusic.com) in nice stereo!

This is Ronnie Dove's version of the Harold Dorman tune, Mountain Of Love. This one was stuck on the B side of the 45, yet was the side that charted....the guys at Diamond records often ended up putting the better song on the B side of the 45! Enjoy this one! You can hear great tunes like this one live every night on www.topshelfoldies.org!

Probably THE best take I've heard of this tune. I've been groovin' to this since I was 8 when Mom used to bring 45's home the restaurant where she worked, and this is one of 'em. I've since acquired a new stock copy of this and the way it's mixed, its sounds HUGE!!! I've heard it in stereo before, and always thouight the 45 had a mor unified sound to it. But such were the drawbacks of having so few tracks to recrd on!

On this day in 1964 {October 31st} Johnny Rivers' "Mountain of Love" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #9 and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100 Four years earlier its composer, Harold Dorman, released his version, it reached #21 on the Top 100 And in 1982 Charley Pride covered it; & on March 20th, 1982 his version peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart In 1968 Ronnie Dove recorded it & he reached #67 on the Top 100 RIP Mr. Dorman {1926-1988}

I just listened to both versions and I agree with you. I'm a Steve Woodwin fan but I know when he's bested and this song did it. You have every reason to be Canadian proud, you gave us the Guess Who lol. Ben E.King did a song called I who have Nothing, I barely remember it, then Tom Jones did it and all hell broke loose lol. Frankie Lane did I'm gonna be Strong, no big deal, then Gene Pitney did it and ppl lost their minds. A different voice and style can make a huge difference.

I just ran both songs and I agree with you. Grant Smith's was better and I've always been a Steve Winwood fan but he's outdone here. Gene Pitney had a huge hit with I'm gonna be Strong but it didn't do well when Frankie Lane recorded it yrs earlier. A different voice and personal style can make all the difference. You have reason to be a proud Canadian, you gave us the Grass Roots lol

Very true. In the US the hit version (still not really big #76) of the song Keep On Running was by the Spencer Davis Group. In Canada their version never charted, but a Canadian band named E. Grant Smith & The Powers took their version all the way to #16, but their version is the harder version to find. Personally I like the version by E Grant Smith better, but then again that could be my Canadian pride contributing to that LOL

I didn't know that. It wouldn't matter to me who made my song famous as long as I got my cut lol Timing and exposure has a lot to do with it too as you said. A minor hit can become a major hit covered by the right artist. :o)

Another great example between 2 versions of a song - Blinded By The Light - big hit by Manfred Mann's Earth Band - but it was written & originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen. Far as I know though, Springsteen's version was only available on album so received almost no air play, except on album rock stations.

Johnny has the better voice, much smoother and a lower pitch. This guy would sound like he's screaming to me after awhile. It's not the first time 2 artists did the same song with 2 different outcomes. This was a huge hit for Rivers. I understand he still tours and sounds great.

Debuted on the CHUM (Canada) chart in July 1968, peaked at #13 & charted for 7 weeks Debuted on the Billboard pop chart on June 8, 1968, peaked at #67 & charted for 6 weeks This would be his final CHUM chart hit.
