Artist/Band: Rome
Album: "Masse Mensch Material"
Released: 2008
"Masse Mensch Material" is an album of broad scope even as it is heavily steeped in an avant-garde style. It can be considered as a mirror reflection with a fresh musical sound. The words are strong and the intimations bring to mind a dark, unraveling fabric, but the album in its entirety is a compelling piece of Gothic lament. Although there is a very strong neo-folk aesthetic and even numerous classical/symphonic parts throughout the album, the incorporation of a lighter, more accessible touch has been rapidly introduced to frame these wonderfully composed torch songs of love lost, faith and memories, delivered with a brilliant clarity and emotion which makes them all the more approachable.
With a very rock'n'roll mentality, Jerome Reuter, the man behind Rome, is always attempting to pilfer the core of the genre and then expose certain aspects of it to his ideas before remoulding them in his own vision.

Lyrics
Swear never to be gentle, to always be unkind
For love is hard to handle, for love will rob you blind
The burden of saintliness, the temptation to kneel
The mute fear of being caught, in vapours of sin
We who sing of the void, we who burn with love
So strangely plaintive, so strangely complete
In a few drunken hours, in a few hasty words
From our watering mouths, lose all we came here for
If you were mine, I'd blush a little and die
