Few singers have such a wide range of vocal chord. Beautifully sung!

Roger Whittaker is probably one of the best baratone voices of our time. Taking Aker Bilk's Stranger on the Short and putting it to words. Or maybe others have recorded it before him, but his is the most beautiful of the renditions.

I have never heard this version before.....or any other vocal version. It could have been made for Rogers voice. Like rich dark chocolate.......wonderful.

Here I standWatching the tide go outSo all alone and blueJust dreaming dreams of youI watched your shipAs it sailed out to seaTaking all my dreamsAnd taking all of meThe sighing of the wavesThe wailing of the windThe tears in my eyes burnPleading, "My love, return"Why, oh, why must I go on like this?Shall I just be a lonely stranger on the shore? Why, oh, why must I go on like this?Shall I just be a lonely stranger on the shore?Add song meaningNot sure what to write? Yes, "Jenny" was the original name. Acker Bilk's daughter's name.

In the innocent spring of my first love, we listened to THIS song - and we thought it was a happy song and that we were immortal! She died, at the tragically early age of 42, and now, nearly 30 years later and an old man, as I listen to the words I realise it was warning us all the time that the sun sets also, and sets too soon. The title was changed when it was used as the theme tune for TV program about a French girl staying in England. This girl was the 'Stranger on the Shore'. I can't remember the original title but I think it was named after Acker Bilk's daughter.
