I do not own any copyrights over this material. I understand that all copyrights belong to Warner Bros. 'Purple Heather' appeared on Rod Stewart's 17th Studio album 'Spanner in the Works' produced by himself and Trevor Horn.

'Purple Heather' is a Scottish folksong written by William McPeake in 1957 and is also known as 'Wild Mountain Thyme' and 'Will You Go Lassie, Go.'

It is believed that the song was based on a poem entitled 'The Braes of Balquhidder' written by Robert Tannahill (1774- 1810) Asides from Stewart, the song has been covered by a number of artists.

Love this song and Rod! I once snuck back stage with my McGregor family tree to try and get him to sign it. I got within 6 feet of him; dropped the family tree and ran. Regret it to this day but all I could think was "I'm gonna go to jail, drunk and dressed in plaid." He came out at the Palace in Pontiac Michigan with his hair dyed red saying he got bored at the hotel and dyed his hair. Dang he might have wanted a visitor. smiles
