This song written for Rod; of course you want to listen to it. A great interpretation.

I think everybody needs to hear David Ruffins version of Rainy Night. If you do, you really don't want to listen to Rod anymore.

His vocals are damaged by to many fags,Randy Crawford adds resonance and vibrato to the song.

Rod Stewart does a fine job with this song. I agree that it doesn't approach the heights or the depths of Brook Benton. Benton shoots the lights out with his soul. David Ruffin also does a beautiful rendition of this song.

Listening to this version makes me want to cry. RS doing Brook's song is like having a Cindy Lauper doing Maggie Mae, it just doesn't work. I love Rod Stewart, but this is just wrong. Brook Benton has you sitting in the boxcar with him, you feel his soul as he sings, I feel sick and need a scotch when I hear this because it makes my ears bleed. Please people don't cover a classic.
