What all the other acts who cover this song don't understand is that the Richard Berry version (the original writer of this song & "Louie Louie") is so much better sonically because the chord pattern is way different & better than the others.  The Sonics covered it in 1965 & got the chords way way wrong, and unfortunately, that's the version everybody remembers & copies.  Berry's version is G-Am-Bb-Am, whereas all of the other versions out there are G-C-D-C, which is basic 1-4-5-4 progression & very similar to Louie Louie, though it uses an Em instead of E major.  Just another case where whites copied blacks & got more notoriety & money than a superior original version.

That's the way The Black Keys likes to record and, for me, the original sounds better than this

For the black keys I can genuinely ask if they record with a shovel. I actually find the voice and guitar here sound much better than the Black Keys version, just judging by recording quality.
