@Bit6string According to Wikipedia, Roberta did not write the song. She covered it..It was written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. Lori Lieberman recorded the original version, who had seen Don Mclean in concert, relayed the story to Gimbel, who already had the title in mind for a song.
