Before hitting #1 in 1979 with "Sad Eyes" and after peaking at #3 in 1972 with his remake of The Tokens' "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", Robert John got as high as #99 on the Billboard's Hot 100 chart with his version of The Mystics' "Hushabye". John turned his version into a polished pop ballad, which deserved a better chart fate.
