God, he was beautiful. So good to see him so healthy and vibrant here. Love and miss you, dear Rob.

This actually sounds very close to how The Grass Roots re-recorded "Temptation Eyes" for their "Symphonic Hits" album 12 years later in 2001.

On this day in 1970 {December 6th} the Grass Roots performed a medley of three of their hit records on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... The songs they performed were "Midnight Confessions" {#5 in 1968}, "Let's Live For Today" {#8 in 1967} and "Temptation Eyes" {#15 in 1971}... Bassist and lead singer "Rob" Grill passed away on July 11th, 2011 at the age of 67... R.I.P. Mr. Grill and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}...

Grill looks a little too much like a politician begging for audience favour in this; it's not his best performance (though at age 45 not bad!). The '80s-style guitar solo spoils what would otherwise be a terrific display of late-'60s bubblegum pop, which is a genre most people today either don't appreciate or don't understand -- except for those of us who lived through it, to whom Rob Grill and the Grass Roots were a much-admired example.

whenever i hear the radio version i think of it as a combination of guess who and chicago transit authority. gonna have to check rob grill and this band out now. the horns and guitar remind me of cta and the vocals remind me of bertram cummings.

Went to the "Happy together" tour show July 10, 2011 the Grass Roots were supposed to play and the band made an announcement about Rob being in the hospital and that he needed our prayers, didn't know how bad it was I was just disappointed that Rob wouldn't be there singing. How I wish he had gotten well again, what a great talent and great guy. Rest in Peace Rob you were one of the best

@laudiesmom Thanks for the nice comment! Don't know about the scar...I wondered about it, too!

@bze2nlz4 Thank you for that information. I was wondering because videos taken over the years shows that he seemed to be in a lot of pain. still had the same spirit. Thanks again for sharing. Any idea about the scar near the corner of his lip?
