"Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" is a rock song written by Rick Derringer.[1] It was first recorded by Johnny Winter with Derringer in 1970. In 1974, Derringer recorded a solo version and it became his only Top 40 chart hit. They both have recorded several live versions of the song and several other artists have recorded their interpretations.

In 1974, the song's author, Rick Derringer recorded the song for his solo debut album All American Boy. The song was released as a single and reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest showing in the record charts. It has become a staple of 1970s rock music compilations and classic rock radio. Derringer has recorded several live versions of the "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" over the years.

I dont care how many top hits Derringer had, he is one fantastic guitarist, I meanhes incredibly good on electric axe, just as great as ever. I bet he has played on a lot of other songs as a session musician, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Rick! Always loved Rick and Edgar and Johnny. Rick is still spot on, guitar and vocals could have been from 30 years ago. I respect his turning to Jesus--who knows what he's seen in his career, and his own personal struggles that may have come close to bringing him down. Great guitar, excellent writer and vocalist. Gettin high right now Rick, hope you're not mad tooooooo....

I like it when you see a performer enjoying himself. As said before Rick has still got it.

Very cool seeing Mr. Johnny Winter on the keyboards. One of Rick best performances of this hit in a long time. I know...I was there. And he's one nice guy.
