"It Don't Come Easy" is a song released as an Apple Records single by Ringo Starr in April 1971, reaching number four in both the U.S. and UK singles charts. It was Starr's first solo single in the UK, but his second in the US (the first was "Beaucoups of Blues"), following the breakup of The Beatles.

Starr reportedly composed the song in 1970. Decades later, he admitted that the song's producer George Harrison "co-wrote" the song (as he did with other hits such as "Photograph").

The released version included Harrison on guitar, Klaus Voorman on bass guitar, Stephen Stills, Ron Cattermole (brass), Badfinger members Pete Ham and Tom Evans performing background vocals, and Starr on drums and lead vocals. The B-side of the single, "Early 1970", featured Starr on acoustic guitar, piano, drums and vocals, with Harrison playing guitar, bass, and providing backing vocals. Its lyrics refer to the lives of The Beatles around the time of their breakup (hence, the title). Both tracks were produced by Harrison, and published by Startling Music

(1) George wanted Ringo "in"...Period. Ringo was already in the hottest band in the U.K at the time with Rory. John and Paul both liked Ring...after all, they'd known him since '60!(2) NO...the other 'three' did not get "lucky" w/Paul. As McCartney himself would be the first to tell you..."it was always the four of us that made it happen, and Brian too. If it hadn't have been for Brian, we would have been the best pop band in England for awhile, and then we would have gone on...it was always John, you know? He wanted it more than us, to be the "biggest band ever", and he pulled us in with him because we thought "what if he's right, and we get big?".

By the way, that's Greg Rollie, original keyboardist for Santana on the keys...master musicians all.

Original recorded version from the "Concert for Bangladesh", (organized by George Harrison and Leon Russell at Madison Square Garden in 1971), had a much better groove...of course, with Leon directing the band, Bobby Keyes leading a horn section and a bunch of back up singers; with Harrison on lead guitar. Anybody have a video of that concert? First large-scale benefit rock concert in history I believe.

What people seem to forget is that Ringo was already a successful and accomplished drummer before Pete Best had even joined the Beatles. So a possible view could be that the Beatles won the lottery with Ringo

Yep. And I think Harrison and Lennon were quite talented and had their moments no doubt, but in my opinion all three really mostly got lucky with McCartney.

Boy, did he win the lottery when he met those mates of his. Still, he acts out the holiday his life is, so good on you.
