Amazing artistry. One of my all time favorites & I'm a huge music snob. Perfect piece on an incredibly complex and satisfying album.

This is as good as music gets. There is no better. Either this or "Living it Up" is my favourite pieces of music. Still keep the receipt from when I brought this album 20 years ago. I thought (and still do) that Rickie's 1978 album was better than excellent, and this album blows my socks off! I still mention her to friends when I can, this is one artiest all ought to hear! - Lee

I saw this tour at the Palladium, in NYC...I'd never come home hoarse from a show before...but I gotta say, I was blown away and was totally overwhelmed with excitement...especially since I'd just about lived in the Album up till then. I've had tickets to see her many times...and have only seen her twice...because she's stood me up (cancelled) more than anyone else in the World...Saw her on the Pier once after that...She did a shoddy show, then left after a 45 minute set, and said to the audience "If you want more...I'll be downtown..."(whatever that meant)but when she cancelled her Concert at Carnegie Hall, a couple years back...I promised myself I would never buy another RLJ Ticket...and survive on the memory of the show I did see, that was 'good'...I told her about it, on FB...she sort of apologized...how whimsical of her.But ...she's still a maniac genius of sorts, and I listen to her many Albums regularly.

This song is as heavy as any Miles tune. One of my all time faves. (Steve Gadd on drums I believe).

I saw RLJ on MTV when MTV included music 1978 or around there. She painted a picture then that I still value today. Music is not just an auditory experience. Many senses are included. Rikki paints. And Greggory...the camels in the drivers seat...paint that! A slow and easy mark.

soul. unique. her voice like a cat. the form unpredictable and perfect. the arrangement orchestral, floaty, funky, crisp and spacey. i love music. bongos, and a fender bass, elastic vocals, chords hanging in the air. i love this.

I simply cant explain how deep this song went in my soul. Let me paint a picture. Just graduated from the US Navy School of Music. Young, very controlled and military but itching to be free and knowing there is something out there in the music world for me. I drove my 1977 4 door econo car through the south on the way to New Orleans for my first music assignment... Navy Band New Orleans, Camels in the drivers seat home made car stereo with CB. Night driving through the South not knowing where my life will lead but knowing in my soul I am heading in the right direction. Time stood still.......

"Pirates" is a masterpiece...one of Rickie's finest. An artist in a class all her own.

they give us any flack, if they come up on our ass.... As evocative today as it was in '81.. I followed the directions to the western slope, it was everything it promised to be

i bought this LP back in about 1981...i had my first studio apartment - in real estate school, a university as well, a part-time pizza parlor job, a 74 vw bug and all of 20 years old. this mystical track was my fav on the album. I'd warm up the 'ol h.h. scott tube amp, garrard turntable & loved listening to this at night or when it was raining. gonesh #4 incense blowing a smoky genie through my afro...30 YEARS ago...man that was distant... i was the jack beneath the axis...
