One time at club Peanuts in West Hollywood Rick showed up in a white RR. Inside by the bar while I was ordering drinks for me and my date,he tried talking my date into leaving with him. I thought isnt he suppose to be in jail? Anyway, my date left with me and not him.

It doesn't matter, really. MJ and Prince were gonna happen regardless. Rick was more steeped in the tradition of '60's-'70's Funk. Full-on horn sections and backup singers, a band which all played instruments, not sequencers or loops....the whole shebang. The other guys were somethig else. RJ still had a few hits left in him, Seventeen was a huge single in the midst of it all. But his best stuff was from the pre-Thriller days...always will be.

Listen..you are correct in your analysis...but I beg to differ in this way...RICK was and will always be KING to the pimp, players and hustlers and street folks...that raw power funk, pimp lyrics...band was very distinctive. But I do agree with you!

Question: Why is Rick James wearing Conan the Barbarian's loincloth, a UFC championship belt, leather studded legwarmers and greased up with a half quart of body oil? All while chilling in a dungeon and wielding a bleeding guitar stolen from Gene Simmons? Answer: Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Huge Rick James fan!!!! I remember driving with big bro blasting you and I in his Fiat!! I definitely rate Rick ahead of Prince in overall hits and his last album before he passed was excellent!!!(Sapphire's my fav). My wife and I got tickets to see him at the Garden just before he died. I was so pumped and then devasted after hearing he passed. It would have been the first time I saw him live. RIP Rick!
