he was such an unassuming man, I first met Rick in Martys Tinker st café around 1984/5, Tommy Wolf was behind the bar, I already knew Tommy so he introduces me to this guy sat next to me at the bar, Philip this is Rick, couple of pleasantries later I buy him a drink, so says Rick, "what do you do in Woodstock"? gave him my story then asked him what he did, He told me he was a musician and had just come back from my country (UK) after a gig in Leeds, ok sez me, which group are you with, The Band was his reply, ok sez dumb prick me, What Band, this is a true story, he was so pleased that someone was talking with him without any motives, we used to bump into each other at Deanies quite often after that, good man,,Philip cunningham

One of the warmest, most genuine people I have ever met. I used to run into him when I was a kid living in Woodstock, NY. He was always so interested in what I was up to and encouraged me musically and what ever else I had going on. He was gone too soon!

@def717 Hi, I didn't know Rick, but he grew up just outside of my Hometown. My Father-in -Law...of all people...managed to obtain a copy of " Electric Bass Techniques "on the internet and gave it to my young teen aged son (a huge Band fan) for Christmas about ten years ago. We check it out from time to time. Always brings a smile...

Hi there- I am Rick's niece and I just want to thank you and tell you that I used to drive Rick to gigs with Sredni...in my Nova...Rick in the back seat with his guitar and Sredni riding shotgun with his harp...beat the shit outta any radio...or now ipod or anything imaginable.

I think you all were great. I have that old session on tape and I recommend anybody learning bass to buy the Homespun taught by Rick Danko with Happy Traum and Company. You will not be sorry. Rick Danko had the best timing and a great singer.

Thank you so much for adding this video of Rick singing this song in full! As folks know, Cindy Lauper has a new album coming out in June and she covers this song on it. Her version is much faster and well, Cindy-like... and I just LOVE LOVE this version of Rick Danko's - he was the Man! I miss him so much!! And Richard, too!
