"Pink's Song" is a pretty mysterious ode to somebody--perhaps Syd Barrett (it seems that the members of Pink Floyd all felt a need to address their former band mate in song).

Quiet, smiling friend of mine

Thrown into our lives

You gave everything you could

Saw through our disguise

I had to stay I could not leave

Give me time so I can breathe

Give me time to be at ease

Patiently, you watched us play

Parts you'd seen before

Even then, we sometimes asked

What you keep us for

Caught between the tangled web

You helped set us free

Sadly, then, you lost yourself

So you had to leave

And I must go, be on my way

Let me go, I can not stay

Let me go, I must not stay

And I must go, be on my way

Let me go, I cannot stay

Let me go, I must not stay

This song remembers Robert Wyatt 's sound, especially "sea song" from The album "rock bottom". Great job rick!

Once you hear Rick's voice all the tension melts away. Superb musician and quietly responsible for the PF "sound" IMHO

I read somewhere that it was written about Rick's children's tutor. How accurate that is, I don't know.

What an amazing song. WHY is this not available on ITUNES??? Even though he seemed to be a behind the scenes member of Floyd, this shows how truly talented Richard was. RIP....you are greatly missed!

I read somewhere the song was written for a tutor of Rick's children, who was nicknamed (for some reason) Pink. Just what I read somewhere, but it makes a little more sense when applied to Syd.

Exactly, not telling the truth keeps it sacred. Is my belief... just as Douglas Adams never explained the number 42, but i figured it out, it's quite simple... Life, the Universe and Everything 4 letters, 8 letters + 10 letters, 4x8+10 = 42

Though I do believe this is about Syd, Rick Wright has stated that this song was about a friend he and his wife knew that overstayed his welcome. It does hit close to home with the Syd thing (Especially being 3 years after WYWH and he and Syd did a lot of the vocals on Piper and were close). What do I believe, I take what they say at face value (ie Rick Wright and his wife) but my got says Syd, why call it Pinks Song and not WHATEVER THE GUYS NAME IS song. Just my 2 cents.

I miss Richard Wright, a shame he passed away. I loved his energy, his song "Pink's Song" he wrote for Syd Barrett is a very touching and beautiful little song.

The flute solo from 2:09 is making me thrill. A piece of music I would choose for my entering into the next world ... if it ever exists

@FelixAtagong He also once remarked that the solo albums by Syd were awful and basically called him a nut job. I doubt he really meant everything he said to journalists.
