Dear Veronica , I played in a band during this time & still play although only @ dinner parties & a few select invites , I saw Harvey playing in Richards Band & I saw him once in Sherbert. When I met him in Perth I made sure that he knew he was VERY appreciated as a musician & an inspiration not only to my playing but to other guitarist as well . I felt at ease in Harvey,s presence as he was very approachable , kind & generos with his time , I shared some personal matters with him & he with me ,although we were virtual strangers I also shared my faith & hope & he seemed comfortable with that at the time I was saddeneded by his passing as good people are becoming rare in the broader community , I found Harvey to be a genuinely nice guy , I hope you take comfort in that , knowing that he is rememberd not only for his music but as a good person . Kindest Regards Lenny

I have been mates with Harvey for over 30 years we were both Dandenong boys, but that's another story. .I have known him through bands such as Clyde House, Mississippi, Sailor, Ariel, Sherbet, Richard Clapton, Swannie, Party boys, Played with Glyn Mason, After that he played on the sly with me and John Lee Because he was a rep for Fender and wasn't allowed to play in public. He then formed a band with me and Rick Puchala and Kevin Buckingham in a band called Little Riff. While living in Sydney for 2 years in the same house as Ian Moss ,Ian frequently stole Harvey's guitar for his gigs, and I can hear the licks that he stole from Harv in his playing. Harvey James was one of the greatest guitarist that Australia has produced Rest in peace mate Your playing still makes the hairs on my neck stand up........

The Title comes from some graffiti on the wall of the tunnel @ central Railway Station Sydney I remember seeing on my way home from Sydney central TAFE, " THE GUITARIST " on the Red Strat is none other then Harvey James former Sherbert lead guitarist who toured with Richard during this time & was , is one , of the best guitar players not only in Australia but the WORLD & a lovely human being ,whom I had the rare pleasure of meeting in Perth on the 90,s Cheers

I recall that Bangalow bowling club NORDEN NSW--in late 1978---it was one of the top country gigs--Jimbo and the boys were on the night --just a little too much take on the Tubes though--ah ha--that was when the customers of that era could take their booze and gear witghout becomming complete rsoles-

Jeez I thought the guitar work was a bit bluesey for Harvey. Never knew it was Mossy playing it though.

Probably Australia's most under rated singer/songwriter.

Lots of record company politics behind this. Moss played the lead and both Clapton & Moss were very happy with his work. Compare this solo to the one in Cold Chisel's "You Got Nothing I Want" & there's a def similarity. Come record pressing time, Clapton gets TOLD that Harvey James will be credited as lead guitarist. Harvey was contracted at that time in Clapton's band. Clapton had to go back to Moss and tell him he wasn't being credited. I think all 3 musos were embarrassed by the politics.

This was a killer song and one of Claptons best in my opinion. I am surprised that no one gives credit to the great drumming on this track. I am pretty sure it is Mark Meyer, who has done some great drumming with some great Aussie bands including Stylus, moving pictures, Sharon O'Neill, etc. I might mention that it was only last year that I actually understood the lyric in the chorus, "I needed you like oxygen" ;-)

Yep it's Mossy on the track and Barnes singing backing vocals. The late Harvey James in the video who was a great guitar player in his own right and a lovely guy. RIP Harvey.
