Richard Carpenter interview about Karen and the album "Voice of the Heart."

I had trouble finding the exact date when this interview aired. I'm not even sure what television show this came from, or who the interviewer is...? She mentions Karen's passing "last year" which could place the interview in early 1984. At the end of the interview, she mentions the "big game" between USC and UCLA, but I wasn't able to find out when that occurred.

Richard says that people believe anorexia nervosa is a psychological disorder. He may be correct, though I read that new studies show a "physical" cause to the disease. These new studies reveal a link between anorexics and people who have autism. There are genetic similarities between the two disorders, apparently, they claim.

Have you read her biography 'Little Girl Blue'? Karen was nothing like her mother. Karen craved love and affection, something her mother was never able to give her. She even insisted Karen go through with her wedding despite not wanting to marry her fiance, just because the invites had gone out and People Magazine had been invited. She was, by all accounts of Karen's closest friends, a cold-hearted woman.

Rest in Peace Karen Carpenter, the "voice of the heart". I'm glad Richard continues the Carpenter legacy.

Everyone needs to stop hating on him and stop insulting him. Him and Karen were extremely close, and you can just tell hes trying to keep it together the whole interview, and thats why he may seem passive or boring. To this day it makes him teary to talk about her, they were best friends, siblings, band mates, and co workers for God sakes!!!!

Such a great studio genius! Mr Carpenter that is...! AIR and many modern producers nod to this original artist!

i only learned of randy schmidt last night by chance. i wanted to plug his mouth shut. where was he during all the other interviews? LOYAL friends would never talk to the likes of him. cant people put aside the pills and eating disorder and enjoy what should have been Karen's legacy!! if she knew she would one day the poster child of anexoria, i believe her life would have been dramatically different. her music was first in mhop!

Took a while to hear her recordings " Oh yeah " he says "a month" yeah... Well i'm glad he did but this guy is out for the money. Boy he milked her to the end . What a cold fish ... and she adored her. She was the wind beneath his wings. Sorry, this guy is looking for responses that are acceptable. Poor Karen... I can't take this guy. Oh yes Richard.....Thanks for caring for little sis as well as you did.. she sent you to fame ... yes what are you going to do. There are plenty of you out there

@namsak Richard just isn't someone who expresses himself well emotionally, especially not in public but I don't think Richard ever got over his sisters death and I doubt he ever will. People grieve very differently, but they were very close and he loved her very much.

We all have to remember that people a grieve differently. So this might have been his way of dealing with the loss. Getting back to a little normalcy in his life. I have heard him say that he will forever miss her. He might not be able to share his emotions well....but I think he is probably a geniune guy.
