The TV movie portrayed that Karen's mother was mean to her, belittling to her and such. If this was really true it could of caused the anorexia nervosa? Possibly.

Gmail User 5 months ago I made the mistake once of doing a YouTube search on "best female vocalists". I watched several opinion "lists", and NONE of them - zero - listed Karen in their top 10, or even 20.@Gmail User: .....hahaha it is because Karen IS NOT IN THOSE LIST BECAUSE HER VOCAL TALENT DOES NOT BELONG TO THIS PLANET ! KAREN' S VOCAL TALENT IS DIVINELY AND OTHERWORLDLY SENT TO OUR PLANET and SHE JUST VISIT US A SHORT TIME AND LEFT......because we DO NOT KNOW HOW TO KEEP TRUE TALENTS!

This unfortunate always controlled the poor Karen. Her solo album to date is unfortunate episode. Karen was trying to change its image, sound, be independent. She felt that the duo's musical genre was not more pleasing to the public since 1976, so she decided to follow the rhythm that was a hit at the time it was the disc genre. She wanted to change his career, but this unfortunate always thought of him, he was afraid that maybe Karen could the desired success without it then did not want Karen's solo album was released. Quincy Jones tried to come to terms with it and the record company but they were relentless. Moreover also made a point of discrediting the solo sister. After the death of his sister, fell by the wayside, proving that the only star was always Karen!

I can still remember the day we all heard of the tragic passing of a true American music Icon. I felt as though we all lost an age of innocence in music. Here I sit 32 years later and my feelings are still the same. Thank you Karen and Richard for giving us your beautiful musical souls.

Very sad. I remember watching this interview, live. I truly felt for Richard.I don't recall seeing Part 2 (mentioned by David Hartman, near the end of the video). Is it available anywhere?

I feel bad for Richard that all people want to do is ask about Karen, they never seem to ask "how are YOU doing?". I was devastated when I heard the news she had died. I was 23 at the time. I was probably in my 30's before I really learned much about anorexia. What a huge loss to not only the family but to the fans who couldn't get enough of that voice along with Richard.

Karen was not some sort of freak. For some reason, but which is common in females from dysfunctional familes, Karen internalized her family, her parents', disfunctions. Read Levenkron's books, 'Best Little Girl in the World' and 'Treating Anorexia Nervosa'. Karen was adapting to a unhealthy family situation. Richard had the advantage of being male. Karen, not.

David Hartman was a decent interviewer. This is probably one of the first to deal with a serious issue (minus Cavett).

it amazes me that he plays "dumb" in many subjects...he is just clueless...Come On!....

All I can say is the negativity below is a sign of the times. KC is dead and speaking ill of the dead shows a lack of maturity. The music will live on long after RC is gone and I think that focus on the musical treasures that they left behind is what all of us should do.

He wasn't good to her .... now he lost her...she was the Carpenters...she loved her brother too much ....more than he cared about her and her illness...why didn't he do more .. more could have been done .... that's what I THINK...now he's without her

She also was taking 3 ativan per day. She was battling a lot of demons. She is resting now, too proud to sing or speak to anyone.
