Lyrics
He was born in a small town
With great big city dreams
To leave his home and never return
And build a life with ease
In hopes one day to find true love
Settle down and build his home
Live his life the way he should
And never more to roam
At the young age of 19 years
He packed his bags and left
Hugged his dad and kissed his mom
And headed way out West
Not looking back as he drove away
With tears in his big blue eyes
He gazed back in his rearview mirror
And he couldn't help but cry
Home is where the heart is
To every man and child
Leave and do what you gotta do
But just for a little while
Take your roots and move away
And make a better home
And know that you'll return someday
Never more to roam
At 21 he found true love
And was bound to settle down
Got a good job and built a home
In a decent part of town
His dream came true
As though he thought
'Til his memories started shining free
Memories of home and friends
And a place he had to leave
At 50 years he had enough
And he packed it in to leave
A town that really served him well
And gave him all he needed
He took one glance in his rearview
Mirror and then they drove away
Headed East to a place he loved
And knew he'd return some day
