"Experiments in the Revival of Organisms" (1940), is not an outright hoax - the research contributed to organ transplantation, and Robert J. White personally saw a two-headed dog during his visit to the USSR - though it does exaggerate. Live dog's heads were indeed sewed onto other dogs' bodies, and organs kept artificially alive outside the body, but with poorer results than suggested (the dogs experienced brain damage, and lived apparently for hours rather than days). White's monkeys are real.
