Very delightful to see (and hear) this song in the opera setting. Ms. Scotto is very playful, manipulative and girlish in her rendition, as opposed to the many "tragic" renditions I've seen (on YouTube) in concert. Thank you very much! I enjoyed her "babbo's" exasperated expression too!

Do you know the plot of Gianni Schicchi? If not, please read it. She isn't asking for the permission. Gianni Schicchi has no problems with her marrying Rinuccio, it's his parents that are against it, but they would agree to the marriage if Gianni Schicchi figures out a way how they can steal the inheritance that their just-died relative left to charity. So she is begging her daddy, Gianni Schicchi to agree. Now, she is in love, but what she is asking for isn't exactly moral.
