I think R.E.M. have made some great songs but if you don't do the falsetto during the chorus, you're fucking up. That's the hook. If you don't do the hook, you might as well not bother. I agree with everyone that the original is pretty untouchable.

It's like covering a Beatles song - Chris's version is pure perfection. Why try to improve on perfection ? It's like trying to cover a perfect pop song (John Lennon's "Hide Your Love Away" or Sly's "It's a Family Affair (Madonna ? Don't make me laugh.) Now maybe Chris will finally give me the $10 he owes me for the ace Bowling Club shirt I "sold" him in '81 when he was still just a Silvertone playing the small clubs in San Francisco. He was always the charmer.

I have to admit, stone sour was the first version of this song that I heard. I personally think it's the best, but there's no point arguing over what is the official best; they're all different genres after all.
