I don't think this song is a literal caricature or biblical interpretation. To me this song uses symbols and metaphors to articulate the longing and hopelessness of coming to terms with the experience of lost love. Everyone has there own narrative and in our own narrative we play the key, Epic, grand roll. What is more hopeless than your own epic roll going unrecognized in the definitive book of mankind.

I'm sorry right. but people dont write songs like this about the fucking Bible. clearly it's something alot more personal than that. if you want to assume that it's about a story in the bible,. then you're clearly diluded and need to stop believing everything you read on wiki"edited-by-average-clueless-people"edia.

wait wait wait.. I always thought she wrote this about her boyfriend who died of cancer?.. or something along those lines...

I know she's using the character of samson for the song, but instead of rewriting the bible, I believe samson is being used as a symbol for strength in a man, and cutting his hair is a symbol of him being vulnerable for her. I personally think the song is more profound that way. And more creative. But. To each his own. That's just my opinion.

I think the point is that Samson DID have a calling and feel a duty. And he died. And so it's easy to want to blame a woman - "she's a slut that just led him on to weaken him, she didn't love him, she's not even Jewish so she must be the enemy." This song is assuming none of that is true. Maybe the truth is Delilah truly loved him and maybe after he died she cried and dreamed of how things could've gone differently for them...this song.

Yes it does. Regina also sings "and he couldn't bring the columns down, he didn't destroy a single 1"..she's giving an alternate history in which they didn't have the obstacle of what Samson was called to do and his strength in the way. Maybe he chose to forgo his duties because he loved Delilah more, he WANTED Delilah to cut his hair. And in the alternate history, without his big battle, there would be no big story and the bible wouldn't mention them but they would have been a happy couple.

It's not though. Because if it's about Samson and Delilah, the lyric "the bible didn't mention us" makes no sense.

I think I'd rather never know what it means. I kinda like the mystery of always trying to figure it out. Tons of her songs are like that. Love it.

how is that irony? it's been purposely put in the song as a comparison.

Looses power in the same way as samson.. so kind of ironic...
