Remember that Regina Spektor sings from the perspective of characters, not herself.

Oh my god guys, it's from the perspective of a rapist. The only thing that can throw you off is the fact that a woman is singing it. Weird comparison but look at Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing. They both have similar lyrics and Regina is more subtle and poetic about it. But if a guy was singing this song it would be really obvious.

'I wasn't even her first, so don't blame it on me' 'don't put a beautiful body in front of someone who's hungry'

This is such a good example of a victim blaming view of rape. So accurate it's creepy.

Obviously it was about lust; "I wasn't even her first, so don't blame it on me." "Don't put a beautiful body in front of some who's hungry."

it's about a rapist. just read Lolita; so many of the same justifications

Why are so many people sure it is from a man's view, I think she was lusting after another woman, but thought it was wrong.

I dont think... its about rape... that sounds like a stretch. a man can yearn and not necessarily RAPE

I Won't Be Stifled Anymore

The more I listen to this song, the more I realize that this really DOES sound like a man who's trying to justify raping a stripper or prostitute, especially when she makes that comment about stumbling blocks, which seems to be a feeble attempt to make it seem like the victim's fault. This song makes my feels hurt :O

I think this is the point of view of a man lusting over a prostitute. It makes the most sense to me...
