Album version, Lyrix:

Hello, hello

Calling a Karl Projectorinski

To the front, over the cathedral

You have won, dear sir

May I congratulate you first

Oh what an honor

Human, human of the year

You won [x2]

Why are you so scared

You stand their shaking in your pew

The icons are whispering to you

They're just old men

Like on the benches in the park

Except their balding spots are glistening with gold

Human, human of the year

You won [x2]

You have won

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Outside the cars are beeping

Out a song

Just in your honor

And though they do not know it

All mankind are now your brothers

And as the cathedral has spoken

Wishing well to all us sinners

And with the sigh grows silent

Til next year's big human winner

Outside the cars are beeping

Out a song

Just in your honor

And though they do not know it

All mankind are now your brothers

All mankind are now your brothers

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hello, hello

Calling a Karl Projectorinski

To the front, over the cathedral

You have won

+iOSYoutube GT it also sounds as if karl is a prisoner of his own mind, trapped in a replay of events. But won't realize it due to schizophrenia.. everyday, wondering who he is to these people appraising him for his everyday life, where he only knows one thing. his main job in the theatre, and to attend this cathedral. In order to keep karl controlled by society itself. For example: Shutter Island

There is something about Regina that I cannot put my finger on. This song has captured me- no matter how many times I listen to it, I still get chills and go into a different world. All of her music is unique and captivating, and I wish she would make more soon so I had more to listen to!!!

Hello? hello?Calling a Karl ProjektorinskiTo the front of the cathedralYou have won, dear sirMay I congratulate you first?Oh, what an honorNotice the syntax. The first two lines echo the sort of announcement you might imagine being made by a secretary or attendant at a humdrum public office or event. It is not Karl Projectorinski who is called but a Karl Projectorinski. Nobody in charge knows who this guy is but his named showed up on the right roll or list by chance and now they must deal with him."-ski" is an adjectival suffix found in Polish last names and means roughly "of the (place name)." The place name here is instead 'Projector'; he is 'of the projector'. While explanations elsewhere have used the idea of projection to mean he is some sort of 'projection' of society's flaws, I personally think a literal explanation achieves a more satisfying understanding of who is. He is the projector guy. Like the diligent unassuming chap who changes the reels at the local theater. Who never tires, who always shows up in time for his shift. In the background, silently ensuring you enjoy your show. The last name also sounds Jewish, providing a parallel idea that reinforces his outsider status. Karl plays the movies but does not watch them. He goes to a cathedral but does not worship there. (*)Human! human of the year! you won!Human! human of the year! you won! This feels like a send-up of annual awards like TIME's Person of the Year. He's won for just being human. He did nothing extraordinary; he was chosen because being human for so long deserves its own reward. More precisely, he is being awarded to make a point. Why are you so scared? You stand there shaking by your pewThe icons are whispering to youThey're just old menLike on the benches in the parkExcept their balding spotsAre glistening with goldKarl is afraid to accept the honor because he knows or intuits that a version of the Interesting number paradox will come into play. Almost as evidence to confirm this, he is informed that the past winners are a veritable gold-plated parthenon that eagerly awaits his arrival.Outside the cars are beepingOut a song just in your honorAnd though they do not know itAll mankind are now your brothersAnd thus the cathedral had spokenWishing well to all us sinnersAnd with a psalm drew silentTill next year's big human winnerThe first four lines may again be satirical, emphasizing how nothing really changes or is affected by vacuous awards and titles. On a more personal level, Karl is now doomed to take everyday occurrences more personally. The last four lines bring out the institutional tension in this story. If a stunt is just a stunt, then a clever reactionary non-stunt is still just a stunt. The people will be played out and the cathedral will close till next year's edition. Even if the cathedral is genuine in its intention to celebrate everyday humanism, the point still stands. Annual spectacles are fine but it behooves the houses of the holy to engage in less infrequent affirmations of humanity. And also, leave poor Karl alone!(*) - I'm also reminded of a bit from The Daily Show where Jason Jones interviews stagehands working behind the scenes at the 2012 Republican National Convention. When asked about his support for Romney, one man replied "This is just a gig, man."

This song goes out to my Father, whose account name I am using and who introduced me to Regina five years ago. He's the best father. A quiet genius of sorts, theater geek, music lover, NYC frequent. Love you Daddy <3

I applaud the people who discovered this song from "Enlightened". I've loved Regina and this song long well before that show, but the usage of this song was brilliant and a pleasant surprise. Enlightened was a brilliant show that deserved a hell of a lot more recognition than it received. Don't hate on something you know nothing about.

There's something oddly ominous about this song, especially the ending. I'm not sure what to make of it.
