Flagship recording by this amazing, groundbreaking trio. RED NORVO was one of the fathers of jazz mallets and after fully conquering the xylophone he moved to vibes in '43. But he brought all of that killer technique with him and also made use of the lush resonance of this instrument. His pianistic style, ear for harmony, driving leads and sense of the new, the modern allowed him to re-make himself in this setting with Tal Farlow and Charles Mingus.

The GREATEST of all jazz vibraharpists, at a very-FAST tempo!! Red, of course, hurdles ALL the obstacles (at such a tempo), and Farlow is great, also. Mingus, on bass, is a supportive force ... although you might not notice his contribution, much. THANKS for this upload!

This was when Mingus was sane. I loved him both ways ... sane and insane. *lol*

@garysaddleback it's a deagan! (JC Deagan Company) some of the best mallet percussion instruments! and Mussers are still around, but they are a sub section of Ludwig. :) (they are still labeled "Musser")

That was the era when real musicians played music. Not the mainstream crap you hear today they call music.
