The lyrics to Tearjerker by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Album: One Hot Minute (1995)

I don't own this song, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Warner bros. do

All songs written by Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Dave Navarro and Chad Smith

LYRICS:

My mouth fell open

Hoping that the truth

Would not be true

Refuse the news

I'm feeling sick now

What the fuck am I

Supposed to do

Just lose and lose

First time I saw you

You were sitting

Backstage in a dress

A perfect mess

You never knew this

But I wanted badly for you to

Requite my love

Chorus :

Left on the floor

Leaving your body

When highs are the lows

And lows are the way

So hard to stay

Guess now you know

I love you so

I liked your whiskers

And I liked the

Dimple in your chin

Your pale blue eyes

You painted pictures

Cause the one

Who hurts

Can give so much

You gave me such

Repeat chorus

Pretty song, but Anthony is out of tune often while singing. He tries to hit some of the higher notes, falls short (and flat), then lets his voice do an annoying falling effect to more flatness. The best parts about this song are the guitar work and general smooth groove. The lyrics are kind of unimpressive too, despite the subject matter as a whole.- "I liked your whiskers... and the dimple on your chin." "But I wanted badly for you to requite my love."Huh? Anthony, are you writing this about an ex-girlfriend or Kurt Cobain? Maybe Kiedis had lyrics sitting around about an old girlfriend and just decided use them in late 1994 because it sounded remotely linked with Cobain's suicide. Sounds a bit gay, though, honestly, and pretentious. You weren't Cobain's friend, nor his lover, and barely an acquaintance. Far too many people have since sat around pretending they were, or had some deep personal connection with Cobain. You didn't. His family and real life friends did. You just enjoyed his music, antics, and whatever else he created in a merely consumer end-of-the-process way. This song is an example of someone famous (Kiedis) pretending to be something they weren't (a friend of Kurt Cobain.) Cobain killing himself was a tragedy, but let's also not pretend Cobain was actually a good singer or guitar player just because he died young. Not everyone that dies young, tragically, is as great as claimed. Humans are far too willing to go into hero-worship mode after someone dies fairly young. Cobain had some good songs, good lyrics, and some talent, but he wasn't a good singer, and not an impressive guitar player by any stretch of the imagination (unless your imagination involves paraplegic's without arms trying to play guitar.) He was an undereducated underdeveloped guitar player with a bad singing voice. These factors inevitably mean he wouldn't have lasted long term in the music industry as a figure of force or notoriety. RHCPs, on the other hand, have essentially re-invented themselves post-Californication and have managed to produce some of the best music of their career thus far. Sadly, it seems to be slipping again with the subtraction of John Frusciante, and the addition of inferior guitarist John Klinghoffer. Klinghoffer just can't compare with Frusciante in guitar-playing prowess.I can see why One Hot Minute never got much critical praise, as it's only got 2 good songs. I'll let you guess which ones are the best. Most are just unimpressive drudging loud noise concoctions with no originality, depth, memorability, or lasting appeal.Bring on Californication, four years after this! This is really when RHCP's career became impressive, with the exception of Under the Bridge on BSSM (1991).

The melody itself was enough to get me emotional. Just thinking of him lying there, one of the greatest rock stars of time, no one around. Just him and silence. But then everyone started caring after his death. Music is how he lives on. That's what's importantR.I.P Kurt. Now and forever

I just started to get into Nirvana last month and I've done a lot of research and learned as much as possible about the members. Kurt was weird, he was angry at times, he had some problems with himself close to his end. But, he was influential and awesome. R.I.P. Kurt!

This song honestly makes me so angry with Kurt. It really sucks because I worship this guy, I've heard every song, and spent hours upon hours studying his life, and it makes me angry to not even live at the same time as him, let alone the fact that I'll never see him, or hear him perform in front of me. I love him, but I hate him for his death.

"Loose" is when something is not tight. It's actually "lose", meaning- the opposite of "win". Just an FYI lyrical correction.

REM also wrote tributes to Cobain and River Phoenix on their album 'Monster'. Must have been such a depressing time for alternative rock/artists to lose two such talented people.
