Steve did rehearse with the Rolling Stones. He was GREAT but Mick was afraid that Steve would steal the show. Which he would have knowing what I do about him. Steve Marriott was brilliant. No question about it.

A great Tim Hardin song, and IMO, Marriott and company OWN this song with their version. I read once that Steve Marriott wasn't too keen on recording it, but I'm glad they did. If you want to hear it in stunning audio quality, get either 'The Darlings of Wapping Warf Laundrette' or the Japanese mini-LP version of Small Faces 'The Autumn Stone'.

im with you. everyone always says that when ronnie went to the stones they went downhill....which is true...but the bigger tragedy is the faces...they died and they were ..in my opinion the better band. when Ronnie played w the Faces his playing was so good. As i listen back i hear his influence in the Replacements..Stereophonic...Black Crowes..Weller..etc...and then theres Steve Marriott who I heard the Stones also wanted.

@99Dec I think you're dead right about that. I have to be honest and say that back then I thought they were just another good band among loads of good bands of their time. Looking back now and listening to their stuff again after a few years break I now think they were streets ahead of any other band., brilliantly talented, not just Steve and Plonk, but all of them!
