when i started listening to thrash back in 1989/90...my list of bands never included "metallica" for gods sake (for obvious reasons)...i listened to hexx, xentrix, sodom, venom, celtic frost,  target, re-animator, acid reign, virus, nuclear assault, cryptic slaughter, dri, mod, watchtower, voivod, annihilator, meliah rage, deathrow, deathwish..and i could go on !!

Just like you can't say that a band is better than Metallica because they're faster and more technical, you can't say Metallica is better than a newer band because they were one of the founding fathers of the genre. Faster, heavier and technicality doesn't necessarily make a band better than what came before. Venom fucking destroys Metallica.
