Told you that you'd recognize this tune that is normally always used to see if someone can do a simple time step....lol...this is DBS and we are listening to Ella and Basie swing on a song from a Broadway Musical entitled "No No Nanette". This is one of those songs that in our American minds we think never was written... Let's just say that the composer of the night knew how to write melodies that would linger in our hearts and minds forever! A small anecdote about Ella...well it was 1982, and I had tickets to see Ella at Radio City...well she was just like a kid on stage...plugging her new CD...I think it was with Joe Pass...and she sung a sublime version of Bacharach's "A House Is not a Home" which just blew me away....would give Luther Vandross a real run for his money! For me, Ella is like a vocal tight rope walker who never fell....because in concert...she always strayed from the melody to great effect and scatted like nobody's business...there are others that pretend to scat like Mel Torme and Anita O'day but Ella was the real thing.However, in the studio mainly for the songbooks she hardly ever strayed from the melody in deference to the composer that she was celebrating in song! The score to "No No Nanette" is just a beautiful score, and perhaps we will get to more of that score but there is so much to get to in the short amount of time we have together tonight! I wanted publicly to thank Google+ because today they did something extremely nice for me and they have my confidence and my appreciation! Thank you to the administrators at Google+ for being so fair minded truly..This is DBS...and we shall return with Frank Sinatra singing a song that is just the best...This is Davy And I shall return after these messages from "Hallelujah Challah Breads"!
