I hope that I will be able to preform this someday, just as good, but on trumpet

Who's on trumpet? Kind of sounds like Lee Morgan, which would make sense but then not at all as he was on the original Art Blakey version. Pretty killer tune though:)

This was my first jazz album at 16. Opened up a whole new world. This is the best version of the song, Moanin, written by Bobby Timmons.

Sorry it took me 4 years to respond. I played Trombone too. that's where I got the handle way back in 1968.

Actually, I am pretty sure that this tune came before So What, as the Moanin album by the jazz messengers came about a year before Kind of BLue.At least I'm pretty sure that this tune came first. Incredible, none the less!

The trumpet section sounds like 'So What' by Miles Davis. Hell, it almost sounds like it was lifted directly from that track. I don't have a problem with that though, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as they say.

Heard this song for the first time today sung by Karrin Allyson. Also love the Ray Charles version. Thanks for the post.
