First, is this footage really from 1955? I ask because this great song wasn't released until 1956 and the sound (I have most of his 50s records and they are damn pure 50s R&B, and that's a very distinct music image). The style here indicates later, like early or even mid '60s. Sure he could have performed it before releasing it, like Elvis did with "Hound Dog." Said that it's a really great song and I love all of Ray's very early 50s stuff as they are so much R&B in them (Well, they ARE R&B). I actually prefer most of it compared to his later music though some were really good. It's because I love the 50s sound so much. Btw, there is a really great version by the late great rocker Eddie Cochran (who died in a car crash in Chippenham, UK Apr. 17 1960) at the tender age of 21, 5 years young. Eddie's version was released in Nov.1959 (with strings but Eddie wanted the released master to be with echo but no strings). It's different but damn rockin'. Thanks for posting this, the original live (again, in the 50s real live footage is rare)
