This is the best version of this song. Raul is so much better than other Bobby's (i.e NPH, John Barrowman, etc.) Here is whyThere is a difference between having vocal talent and being able to act. Raul shows both of these abilities in this number. Not only does he sing wonderfully, but he expresses true emotion and need, which I think this song calls for.NPH and Barrowman on the other hand, only really express their vocal abilities, while ignoring the acting that truly makes the song. Neither of them bring the emotion necessary for such a song, while Raul on the other hand makes Bobby seem real, and relatable to the audience.

Dammit. His performance of this song treats your medulla oblongata like a speed bag.

To me this is the best version of Company in all aspects. It is less kitsch and "showy" and it really cuts to the core of what the show is about. The emotional depth is so much stronger.

I saw the original with Dean Jones & also with Larry Kert (a favorite of mine.)But Raul Esparza brings something so different to this interpretation. He is so real.So believable as Bobby. He doesn't just go for the adorable side. He goesvery deep. A great actor. He touched me so much. For those reasons, he has my vote.

Usually I would hate such a song/performance of this type from musical theatre, with all the pathetic monologues from background characters thrown in and interjected throughout the performance........ but the amazing voice of Raul Esparza made me love it! :)

I like this slower rendition, but - and maybe it's just the video transfer effect on the sound quality - I find Esparza's voice annoying nasal, especially in the quieter passages..

That's the most pathetic "Happy Birthday Robert" I have ever heard. It sounds more like "Happy Robert"

Beautiful song. I got a nice view of Raul's soft pallet, though. :P

Of course it's brutally fantastic. But a little less emoting would've perfected it. I mean, really, is screaming "MOCK ME WITH PRAISE" at the top of your lungs really necessary?
