The thing I love about Céline is that she is one of the very artists who performs her songs as well live as in the studio. Irrespective of everything else, she is a dedicated professional and an honest performer. People complain about lipping. As an avid fan, I have found it disappointing too. However, I would be more disappointed if there was not more than enough evidence of Céline doing it 100% live, as she does here. The truth is, there are endless of examples of Céline performing Her songs even better than the recorded versions. She is not a fraud. And I don't feel cheated when she lips. Her voice has changed over the years. It might not even be suited to some of the songs from her repertoire. However, there are many examples of her singing lot of her songs better today than she ever did before. I just can fault her. Show me a singer who doesn't/hasn't lipped ... And whose performances are always faultless. I'm not a Mariah fan but I can't deny that she's a great singer. The truth is, she hasn't maintained her voice.As for Whitney, I am a big fan. I listen to Her more and more and I love the tone of her voice. But I am yet to find a single clip of her performing her songs the way they were recorded. Of course, there are lots of incredible performances (though not entire shows) and her emotion and tone are beautiful. But she rarely sings in the same sustained way as she does in recordings and tends to talk her way through most songs, albeit beautifully. I am a huge fan but mainly of her recordings. I have watched endless footage of Whitney and have lots of favourite love performances but I am not convinced that she was as capable of singing her own songs as they were recorded.It's not a competition, I know, and everyone will have their own opinion, but for me Céline is unrivalled. Not only do I appreciate her voice more, I also admire her professionalism and integrity. No gimmicks. Just talent. Even the endless writers and producers that have worked with her comment on her talent - she can cuts songs in one take, sings live as she does in the studio and is incredibly versatile. Even George Martin said she is incapable of making a sound that isn't perfect. Even Céline's contemporaries admire her and comment on her voice. These are all people who have worked with the other great singers and somehow they don't seem to be quite so complimentary. Céline might not be appreciated by the masses because of her image but all those in the business who know their stuff have nothing but high praise for her.
