This song was written early in the century and was later recorded by Bing Crosby. This is from a 78 rpm record that I own. I also put pictures of babies, many of them from earlier in the century also. Then it ends with a picture I drew of my first son when he was quietly sleeping. Hope you enjoy it!

My mom sang this song to my brother, Dene, when he was a baby in the mid-fifties. I think of it often, and am so glad I found it here, as I couldn't remember all of the lyrics or melody.

Michael Gorman - exactly the same with me. My father sang this to me as I sat in the passenger while he drove the car in 1950, when I was four. I have loved this song my whole life, and even asked my son to play the melody on his violin at my funeral. It means 'dad' to me. I never new until tonight what the song was. I finally gave up looking and decided he must have made it up. Then, at dinner, I sang it for guests and one of them looked it up by the right title, and bam! My heart turned over with joy. Amazing you had the same experience. Also, my dad only sang the first four lines and then hummed the melody. How wonderful to know there were multiple fathers out there doing this.

WOW!!! I have finally found this song. My father used to sing this to me when I was just a small child growing up in Georgia in the 60's. This is the first time I've heard it in 50 years. My father, however, would only sing the first four lines. And the first four lines of this song, brought the loving memories of my father flooding back. He is still alive, and I think I need to call him and let him know how much I love him and how I remember this song. It will be interesting to see if he remembers it like I do. Thanks for uploading.

My grandmother bought me a CD of organ music when I was little (early 90's), and my absolute favorite song on the entire CD was a rendition of Might Lak a Rose

Glad for the fond memories. It is a beautiful song and of course Bing Crosby did a very lovely rendition, as usual for him.

I was watching a movie recently, and a new father was singing this to his new son, and across 50+ years, I remembered my Dad singing this to me while walking me around the room. Thanks.

I found this song in an old songbook, and looked it up and found your video. Great archival photos!
